I just love the colours and range of techniques in this piece.
It was one of those (rare and wonderful) days when I was ‘in my zone’, every mark was working and everything came together in this painting really easily.
As you can see from the photos this wasn’t painted in an idyllic location! In fact this is located in the back of our chicken pen! (The ground had all been turned to dirt and the hens were around my feet but the light in the blackthorn simply ‘called me to paint it’ :)
This is a great example of where my painting isn’t capturing the overall location and view but rather a feeling and relationship with nature – the lush delicate blossom bursting out of the jagged stingers.
From the range of sharp nettle leaves with purple stems in the foreground to the drips and bleeding this feels like an accomplished piece technically, I never tire of looking at its diversity.
